In 2014, we walked 700 km, from Cacouna to Kanehsatà:ke to increase citizens' awareness about the environmental risks that the TransCanada and Enbridge pipeline projects represent as well as extraction and transportation of fossil fuels. We also organised the Line 9B Camp against the inversion of the old Enbridge pipeline.
In 2016, we have put our shoes back on for a 800 km 42-day walk, from Amqui through Baie des Chaleurs, then Gaspe, and then along the north side of the peninsula toward Rimouski. Our message is clear: “No to extraction and transportation of fossil fuels in Gaspesie”.
We wish to draw attention to alternative socio-economic initiatives already implemented or emerging locally on the territory. The local inhabitants should be the ones choosing the future of their peninsula.
It is with humilty, respect and love that we initiate this endeavour on a land that we do not own. The march is on unceded Mi’kmaq ancestral territory. Further, we support their fight against the oil terminal in Belledune in New Brunswick.
Our march in Gaspesie is over, but the struggle continues against fossil fuels as our list of events on this page shows.
The march is a self-organized group composed of different working committees.
